Integration with The Arts: For our contributors, Alive offers the chance to share artwork beyond their high school hallway or college gallery, and conversely, brings the arts to readers who might never otherwise set foot in an art gallery. By helping to create the media they wish to see, our readers are making a bold statement to the world, demonstrating their desire for something different - something real. Through one-on-one, holistic editing and enthusiastic mentoring from Alive's staff, we aim to build self-confidence in young women's creative talents. In a world that does not always take time to acknowledge the transformative powers of art and story-telling, Alive affirms the value of creativity. By offering them ownership of the media, Alive gives young women the opportunity to explore their talents, receive feedback from professionals, and realize the longevity of their dreams. Many local artists have responded positively to our work and submitted existing work and created pieces to pair with articles for publication (Sharra Frank, Laurie Johnson, Melissa Kruse, Skye Gilkerson, to name a few). We are excited by the possibilities that have already opened up as a result of our recent move to the NE Minneapolis Arts District and look forward to engaging the local community through hosting and participating in events in this vibrant arts community. As a growing organization, our engagement in the community is a primary focus, and are in the process of developing active partnerships with local schools and teen groups to foster youth participation. These partnerships are with private and public schools alike, in addition to arts magnet and montessori schools, leadership academies and charter schools.
