Our mission at Alive is to create opportunities for young women to discover their voice and realize their full potential. At Alive, we cultivate strong communities of men and women dedicated to reforming not just the media, but the culture that surrounds young women.
You found us.

Sometimes it feels like a small celebration should be had each time a new person finds us. With each new member, each contributor, and each intern applicant, there are real people in a 1,200 square foot office sitting at their desks in NE Minneapolis doing a little dance around the office. (It's true.)

Why? Because with every person who responds positively to the vision of our magazine, we make a bigger impact in the culture that surrounds and influences young women in our society.

What does that look like?
- Greater respect for women's voices, interests, and talents
- Greater opportunity for women entering the working world
- Broader understanding of differences through story-sharing
- Increased access to the arts, by its integration with media
- Healthier portrayal of women in media, and thereby,
- Greater self-confidence for teenage and young adult women.

Who We Are
Our mission at Alive is to create opportunities for every young woman to discover her voice and realize her full potential. At Alive, we cultivate strong communities of men and women dedicated to reforming not just the media, but also the culture that surrounds young women.

What We Do
Our primary program is the production of Alive Magazine, a publication created entirely by and for young women. The content these women produce reflects elements of real life, demonstrating that there is more on their minds than celebrities, sex, and dieting. The impact of Alive Magazine in the larger population gives voice to a universal plea by young women around the world: the desire for media that speaks to the whole person, offering something different, something real.

How We Do It
We are the only publication that accepts contributions at every level of writing ability. Our criterion for working with writers is that their story has relevance to young women and does not denigrate other people, faiths, or social systems. Submissions are assigned to one of our editorial interns who functions like a mentor, working with the writer to develop her story and providing insight for her to further develop her writing style. To date, we have worked with over 300 artists and writers since 2004.
