Alive Magazine offers high-level experiential internships
for women 25 and under in the following areas:

  • Editorial
  • Public Relations
  • Marketing & Advertising
  • Graphic Design
    Technical Qualifications: Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite 3, with emphasis in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Multimedia Design & Web Development
    Technical Qualifications: Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite 3, with emphasis in Dreamweaver, Flash, in addition to Final Cut Pro.

Please include which department you would like to be considered for. Selected applicants will be asked to interview at our office in Minneapolis.

Interns must be able to work at least part-time hours in our Minneapolis office from the end of May to mid-August 2009. Internships are unpaid; academic credit available.

Editorial Intern - Alive Arts Media // Alive Magazine

Brief Description:
Intern will work closely with Managing Editor to develop story packages, edit submissions, and produce two issues of our bi-monthly PDF publication, as well as weekly Web site content. Other projects include working with contributors to rewrite articles, recruiting writers and artists, developing internal guidelines and new programs, and writing for the magazine and Web site.

Qualifications:
Experience writing and/or editing, preferably with a school publication or other organization. Must be highly motivated, organized, and have good interpersonal skills.

Graphic Design Intern - Alive Arts Media // Alive Magazine

Brief Description:
Intern are responsible for designing layouts and coordinating artwork for at least two issues of Alive Magazine and the Alive Magazine Web site. Will also work with editorial team to develop new graphic elements, Web pages, and print materials as necessary. Other projects include developing our artist contributor database, coordinating photo shoots, and researching new design platforms and resources. Extensive opportunities also available for interns with experience in Web design and development; please specify this interest in your cover letter.

Qualifications:
Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (we use InDesign to produce our PDF magazine, as well as PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Bridge). We are also looking for photographic skills (digital and/or 35 mm) and a strong multimedia portfolio, including print and Web design experience. Must be highly motivated, organized, and enthusiastic about working with a growing non-profit organization. Web design/development applicants must have working knowledge of CSS, PHP, HTML, and Flash or Ajax, with examples included in portfolio.

Public Relations Intern - Alive Arts Media // Alive Magazine

Brief Description:
Public Relations interns work on projects ranging from advertising sales to developing partnerships with like-minded organizations. Public Relations interns also work to plan fundraisers and outreach events, write and distribute press releases, and set up networking meetings. Internship requires a great deal of research, phone calls, and problem-solving! Interns will also have a chance to participate in the creation of Alive Magazine, and will gain a sense for the inner workings of magazine publishing and non-profit management.

Qualifications:
Strong writing, phone, sales, and networking skills. Must also be highly motivated, organized, and able to work on long-term projects independently.
